Atmore, Richard

President – R.A. Atmore & Sons, Inc.

Principal of Wildscape Restoration                    

Rich Atmore is the President of RA Atmore & Sons Incorporated, which includes Foothill Weed Abatement and RA Cattle Company. He has twenty-seven years experience in the General Engineering and open space management field.  Mr. Atmore has expertise in the field of weed abatement, fuel modification zones, erosion control, herbicide applications, and he operates a 350 head cow/calf ranch.  In 2006, Mr. Atmore joined with Noreen Cabanting and formed Wildscape Restoration Incorporated, which specializes in habitat restoration, mitigation planning and monitoring, invasive plant removal, biological surveys and vegetation mapping. rich@raatmore.com

   

Bell, Carl               

Regional Advisor-Invasive Plants, Univ of California Cooperative Extension

Carl Bell is responsible for extension research and outreach in six southern California Counties (San Diego, Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside, Ventura, and San Bernardino). Clientele for this project are land owners/land managers of public and private properties. The focus is on non-native plants that have invaded natural habitats. His research includes the biology, ecology, and control of pest species, educational methodologies, and natural resource policy issues related to invasive plants. Hid outreach education efforts utilize e-mail and internet technologies, along with traditional channels of communication. Mr. Bell has multiple publications in the Western Society of Weed Sciences Research Progress Report and many others. He has a Bachelors Degree in Biology and a Master’s in Botany. cebell@ucdavis.edu

 

Brierty, Peter            

Hazardous Materials Division Chief – San Bernardino County Fire Dept

 Peter Brierty has a total of 31 years experience in the field of Environmental Health and is the only Registered Environmental Health Specialist that is a Fire Marshal and or Assistant Chief in the State of California.  He is a 20-year instructor for the University of California Riverside Extension on the topic of Environmental Law and Regulation Compliance.    For the last 11 years, he has been an instructor for the National Environmental Health Association across the country at their National conferences.  He is a Board Member of the Second Harvest Food Bank, which provides food to over 400 charities and feeds over 40,000 people per week in the Inland Empire.  For the last few years he has traveled to rural Nicaragua to assist a team of dental students and dentists from the Loma Linda University Dental School. pbrierty@sbcfire.org


Felix, Dan             

Division Chief – San Bernardino National Forest

Dan Felix started on a Wisconsin DNR hand crew while earning a degree in Natural Resources from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.  His first paying job for the Forest Service was an Aspen Assassin (hand release) on the Superior National Forest.  From there he followed fire (slash burning) to the Olympic National Forest and on to the San Bernardino National Forest where he has worked in suppression and fuels for the last 23 years.  Short stints on the Cleveland National Forest and with the Park Service rounded out his tour learning opportunities.  He has been a Fire Behavior Analyst since 1997 and is currently the Fuels Officer on the San Bernardino National Forest. dfelix@fs.fed.us

  

Miller, Ken            

Fire Services Coordinator - San Diego County Fire Authority  

Ken Miller joined the Department of Planning and Land Use in August of 2003. Current primary duties as Fire Services Coordinator include Fire Prevention, Damage Assessment, Contract Fire Protection, and Fuel Reduction.  Ken was the primary contact for the first $47 million federal dead, dying and diseased tree grants through the Natural Resources Conservation Service and United States Forest Service.  He also shares administrative leadership responsibility for the newly created San Diego County Fire Authority working with CAL FIRE, fire protection districts, county service areas and volunteer fire departments. Prior to joining the County he was with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection now CAL FIRE, retiring after 31+ years of service with the rank of Unit Chief-San Diego.  Serving in San Diego for 8 years, Ken held the elected title of County OES Area Fire and Rescue Coordinator during that time.  He also served as President of the County Fire Chiefs’ Association, as well as President of the Fire District’s Association. Turner, Kevin      

Unit Forester and Prefire Division Chief –

California Dept of Forestry and Fire Protection/Riverside County Fire Dept

Kevin Turner started his forestry and fire service career in 1974 as a seasonal firefighter for CDF.  In 1975, he changed employers and worked for 11 years on the Sequoia National Forest in Fire and Fuels Management.  In 1986 he accepted a Wildland Fire Defense Planner position with Orange County Fire Department.  After three years in Orange County he returned to CDF to the Riverside Unit in 1989 and have served in that unit until now as a Forester I, Battalion Chief, Division Chief and Unit Forester.  Starting In 2002, he was reassigned from the Bautista Division to start working on the “Bark Beetle” emergency and helped to form the Riverside Mountain Area Safety Taskforce (MAST).  He has a BA from Fresno State, an AS from Reedley College, is a Registered Professional Forester and licensed Agricultural Pest Control Advisor.  Kevin.turner@fire.ca.gov

 

Riggan, Philip

Fire Scientist- USDA Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Research Station

Philip Riggan is a scientist with the USDA Forest Service, Pacific Southwest Research Station, stationed at the Riverside Fire Laboratory, Riverside, California.  He holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree from the College of Forest Resources at the University of Washington (1979) and Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry from San Diego State University.  Dr. Riggan has conducted research on remote measurement of wildfire properties; the ecology and effects of fire in Mediterranean-type ecosystems of California; and the global consequences of wildland fire in tropical ecosystems.  He has been Principal Investigator and leader of the Forest Service/ IBAMA Working Group on Fire and Environmental Change in Tropical Ecosystems and led eight airborne campaigns in Brazil that made the first high-resolution, synoptic, and quantitative remote sensing measurements of large wildland fires. He is currently Principal Investigator on projects developing and applying thermal-imaging technology for wildfire measurement in the western United States and investigating the widespread disturbance and mortality of California mixed conifer forest by bark beetles and drought. pjriggan@gmail.com

  

Mark Rosenberg             

GIS Specialist, California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection,

Fire and Resource Assessment Program, Sacramento CA.

Mark Rosenberg is a GIS analyst with over 18 years of experience specializing in vegetation mapping and analysis. Mark has been a GIS specialist with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE) for over 13 years where he has worked on the CA Fire Plan developing fuels layers, conducting fire hazard assessments and investigating forest mortality in Southern California. Prior to coming to CAL FIRE Mark spent almost 5 years working for Pacific Meridian Resources as a remote sensing / GIS analyst where he was involved in numerous vegetation mapping projects both for the USFS and CAL FIRE. Schott, Tom          

Consultant

Tom Schott is currently providing natural resource technical assistance through an independent contract with the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Tom retired last year after 36 years of Federal service working for NRCS, US Forest Service and BLM in Northern and Southern California, Montana, and Minnesota, as a Forester and Soil Conservationist. He most recently served as the NRCS Emergency Watershed Protection Project Coordinator for the Southern California Watershed Recovery Project. He provided management and technical oversight to a $150 million, multi-year program to reduce dead trees and other hazardous fuels to better protect the mountain communities of San Bernardino, Riverside and San Diego counties from wildfires.       Prior to his fuel management work, Tom served as a NRCS District Conservationist in Mendocino County, where he directed resource conservation planning and practice implementation programs for private landowners, watershed groups, agencies and Tribes. Tom graduated cum laude in 1974 from the University of Minnesota with a Bachelor of Science in Forestry with a minor in Forest Ecology. He is a Registered Professional Forester, Certified Professional in Erosion and Sediment Control, Certified Conservation Planner/Reviewer, and a Certified Wetland Delineator. tschott@dc.rr.com

 

Scully, Pete                      

Battalion Chief - California Dept of Forestry & Fire Protection (CALFIRE) 

Pete Scully has over 33 years experience with CAL FIRE in wildland fire response, planning and fuels management. He has provided fires safety training and expertise to both professionals and communities throughout California. He is the recipient of the Golden Trowel Award for excellence for Archaeological Site Stewardship. pete.scully@fire.ca.gov

 

Steinhoff, Ralph

Mr. Steinhoff joined the Department of Planning and Land Use in January of 2003.  Current primary duties as Fire Services Coordinator include Fire Prevention, New Development, Damage Assessment, Contract Fire Protection, and Fuel Reduction.  He also shares administrative leadership responsibility for the newly created San Diego County Fire authority working with CAL FIRE, fire protection districts, county service areas and volunteer fire departments.  Prior to joining the County he was with the North County Fire Protection District, Retiring after 30 years of service with the rank of Deputy Chief.  He has a Batchelor of Science – University of Redlands, Associate in Science – Fire Science – Miramar Collage.
